AyurGyan
Overview
AyurGyan is made up of two words - 'Ayur' which stands for Ayurveda and 'Gyan' which means Knowledge in Sanskrit.
This is an application which aims to bridge the gap between traditional Ayurveda knowledge and the modern generation by utilizing technology to identify and provide information about medicinal plants. The application focuses on practical learning through image recognition, enabling users to capture photos of plants, identify them using a machine learning model, and access comprehensive information about their medicinal properties.

Ideation
Ayurveda is India's oldest medical system that offers a holistic approach to health and wellness, however with the increasing rush towards modernity, it is slowly slipping into the folds of history.
The knowledge of Ayurveda has always been passed down through generations verbally or in written form, but with the modern generations being surrounded by technology, we decided to create an innovative and user-friendly mobile application that seamlessly integrates Ayurvedic wisdom into the daily lives of users.
Setting the foundations
We broke down the process and started with research. To lay down a strong foundation for success, we performed a comprehensive competitor analysis to understand the existing apps in the market. The results revealed that a few applications focused on educational content, while others focused on personalised wellness plans based on individual doshas and others were platforms to sell ayurvedic products. Interestingly, we observed a gap where no applications were aiding users in learning through a more practical approach.
To ensure a user-centric approach, we conducted a comprehensive survey using Google Forms. This survey sought insights into the existing awareness and understanding of Ayurveda among potential users, their preferences for learning and utilizing medicinal plants, and their expectations from a mobile application in this domain. The valuable feedback gathered through the survey played a pivotal role in shaping the features and functionalities of our application.
Through meticulous analysis of the survey data, we meticulously crafted detailed user personas that encapsulate the various demographics, interests, and user behaviours. These personas serve as archetypal representations of our target audience, providing a human-centric lens through which we can tailor the application to cater to their specific requirements.
Realising the need for an Ayurveda Companion app, we decided to leverage technology to make Ayurveda knowledge accessible and practical for the new generation.
About the Application
By harnessing the power of machine learning and image recognition, the application allows users to capture images of plants around them. The machine learning model, integrated into the app, then identifies the plant and retrieves relevant information from an extensive database.
The application not only educates users about the identified plant but also provides valuable insights into its medicinal properties. Users can learn about the specific health benefits associated with each plant, enabling them to incorporate Ayurvedic principles into their wellness routines.
Moreover, the application offers a practical dimension by providing a curated list of products containing the identified plant. Users can explore a range of medicinal products and, with the added convenience, locate nearby stores that have these products in stock. The integration of a purchasing feature enables users to buy both the products and the identified plants directly through the application.
Using Figma, we developed prototypes that showcased the app's features and functionality.

Outcome
Conducting market and user surveys was crucial in understanding the diverse needs and preferences of our target audience. Developing personas helped in creating a user-centric design, ensuring that the application resonates with the users on a personal level. By seamlessly integrating information, e-commerce, and a user-friendly interface, the app enhances the user's understanding and engagement with Ayurvedic practices.
